You said, we listened!

In a recent parent voice questionnaire, some parents mentioned that the sports facilities needed to improve at our school. Because of this some of the staff at Tottington High School have decided to take part in the Bury 10k to raise money for our PE department.

We have a range of abilities in our running team from a beginner (Mrs Adams) through to an Iron Man competitor (Mr Varey).

If you would like to take part in the 10k and run for Team THS, please let us know.

Meet our running team:

Mrs Deakin: ‘I am running the Bury 10k to help raise some funds for our lovely school, and to kick myself back into road running ready to take on Iron Man in the next 5 years. I have run the London Marathon three times, in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and I have also taken part in various marathons and 10km races over the years. Running after two small children for the last few years has kept me busy, but now it is time to get back into road running. I am already in training as I refuse to be beaten by Mr Scholes.’

Mrs McCool: ‘I’ve been an avid runner for many years and have completed several 10km races and half marathon races but since having children and battling injuries, I’ve slowed down a lot. I’m running the Bury 10K to get myself back into running and raise money for our wonderful school. I am also hoping to trip up Mr Baron along the way...’

Mr Varey: ‘My running experience includes: the Great North Run, Manchester Marathon, Uganda Marathon, Ultra Marathons and Ironman. The reason I am taking part in this event is because I see the benefits an event like this can have on individuals and communities. I would like to see the school and local community coming together and supporting each other to make a real, positive change.

Mr Baron: ‘I’ve been a keen runner for many years, completing several half marathons and I have completed the Great North Run twice, raising funds for charities. Having two young boys has put a stop to my running commitments, but I am keen to run the Bury 10K to raise funds for the school and support our students. You may see me crossing the line piggy backing for Mrs McCool’.

Mr Yates: ‘I love playing football twice a week and now I am the other side of 50, I am keen to run without staff, students and parents so that we can raise money for our great school. I have completed several half marathons and 10km runs. I am currently injured with a sore achilles tendon. I am at the physio each week so that I will hopefully see you at the start line!

Mr Scholes: ‘I am an average runner and have been forced to take part by Mrs Adams... I am joking. As member of the PE department, I want to take part in the Bury 10K so that when we win more trophies in football, netball and athletics next year, our teams look the part! I have previously completed the London Marathon for Cancer Research UK. I am looking forward to leaving the rest of the teachers in my dust...’

Mrs Adams: ‘I completed the ‘Couch 2 5K’ NHS app in May and my husband encouraged me to set myself a new challenge so I signed myself up for the Bury 10K and thought that the best way to motivate myself would be to raise money for the amazing students at our fantastic school. I am not and never have been a runner so I am hoping the rest of the team will drag me across the finish line on the 15th September.
