PEEL Centre: Empowering EBSA Students for Success

The PEEL Centre is a specialist intervention hub designed to rebuild confidence, provide targeted academic support, and improve attendance for students experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA). Our structured, nurturing approach ensures that students feel safe, valued, and ready to re-engage with education at a pace that suits their individual needs.

Our three core objectives are:

1. Bespoke Curriculum to Overcome Barriers to Learning

o Addressing low literacy and numeracy levels, a key barrier to school engagement.

o Providing structured, scaffolded learning that is accessible to students who have had long periods of absence.

o Offering small-group teaching and targeted interventions to ensure that students gain the confidence to return to lessons without feeling academically behind.

2. Emotional Wellbeing & Mental Health Support

o Creating a calm, predictable, and reassuring environment to help students manage school-related anxiety.

o Embedding social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) strategies to increase attendance and reduce school avoidance behaviours.

o Delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions (e.g., Anxiety Gremlin, Reflection Therapy, Red to Blue) to help students develop coping mechanisms and build resilience.

3. Gradual Reintegration & Increased Attendance

o Developing personalised reintegration plans with clear, phased steps to help students transition back into mainstream lessons.

o Ensuring positive classroom experiences by working closely with staff to implement reasonable adjustments and supportive strategies.

o Encouraging small, achievable successes to boost confidence and promote long-term attendance and engagement.

By focusing on academic, emotional, and attendance-based progress, the PEEL Centre ensures that EBSA students regain the confidence, skills, and motivation to successfully return to mainstream education and sustain their attendance long term.
